Our wines are chosen from the Harcourt Valley estate in Bendigo, Victoria. With over 500 awards and 35 trophies it is Bendigo’s most awarded winery and the oldest vineyard in the shire. When searching for a wine to feature in our boxes, these were some of the obvious points that grabbed our attention. Then it was just down to tasting the goods. We are positive the wines we feature will never fail to satisfy.
Dr. Livingstone Shiraz 2017 750ml – A medium bodied red wine that is very easy to enjoy. With scents on the nose of sweet blackcurrants, spicy vanilla and with a hint of smokiness, this shiraz brings a wonderful balance.
A glass of shiraz also fits well with those winter recipes of braised red meats and stews or, on those warmer evenings with a good black pepper crust steak grilled over hot charcoal.
If cheese is your preference, then partner this shiraz with some creamy Camembert, a robust sharp cheddar or even a mature blue will make for excellent pairing.
Dr Livingstone Rosé 2018 750ml – A rosé that certainly stands out from the crowd, with its enticing pale pink hue, it brings fresh strawberry aromas and floral notes. Fresh and dry on the palate at first, then the subtle sweet fruit tones follow to give a beautiful balance.
Pair your rosé with a meal of chicken or duck, some lightly cooked lamb best served pink. If fish is your flavour, then choose salmon with some char roasted vegetables or even a spanakopita tart with spinach and feta.
For cheese, stick with soft creamy cheese, feta, goats, Brie, Camembert and even couple with prosciutto and other mild charcuterie will balance well with this rosé.
Harcourt Valley Riesling 2018 750ml – A versatile white wine that pairs easily with foods. Made in an off dry style, it displays floral aromas with hints of citrus (lime). With a slight sweet tone on the palate, it has ample acidity to bring out a dry finish.
This Riesling will match and compliment just about any meal from Italian pasta to Asian style cuisine, where flavours can be more pungent and spicy. Enjoy with grilled pork, salted ham and bacon, garlic prawns and steamed mussels to grilled fish with fresh herbs and citrus to raw tuna sashimi will all pair well with this Riesling.
If you are looking for a cheese to match with your Riesling, then pick something softer in texture and that has a smoother, milder flavour. A young cheddar, Jarlsberg, Monterey Jack or a young Brie or Camembert.
If a beer is your preference, then this pale ale will certainly quench that thirst and the mango smash will be a very surprising alternative.
